US 64 Bridge Over the Scuppernong River in Tyrrell County, NC

Ron Bittler, PE, while employed by RK&K - Raleigh, NC office - assisted in the structural design of a major bridge on the proposed US 64 Intrastate route over the Scuppernong River in Tyrrell County.  This four-lane bridge replaced the existing two-lane bridge that was built in 1957.  In addition, the design called for a 150-feet pedestrian bridge that connects the proposed US 64 bridge to Veterans Park.

Ron Bittler, PE, was responsible for the preliminary bridge designs, final designs, and the preparation of construction plans for both the US 64 Bridge and the Pedestrian Bridge.  The bridge was constructed in multiple stages in order to maintain traffic during construction and was completed in 2004.
